Mt. Price from Garibaldi Lake.

I had intended to ski to Panorama ridge and camp but the avalanche conditions were pretty bad that day, so I backtracked to Garibaldi lake.  Camping on the lake was a lot colder than I expected, but it was such a wonderful experience at night, mist floating over top of the frozen lake with the surrounding mountains and the glow of blue hour.

This photo is very memorable for me. I had intended to camp on Panorama ridge during an arctic outflow, which caused the temperatures to drop, along with some 55Kph winds. As I summited Panorama ridge, I knew there was no way I was going to camp there, the winds were too strong to get my tent up, and it would be challenging to get my stove going and cook. I really wanted to catch the sunrise from there. On top of that, I hadn't accounted for the wind chill, and my heavier gloves were burreid deep in my pack, and this is the first time I ever felt my hands start to lose feeling from the cold and become non functional. I rapidly descended, marveling at the sunset at the same time, and jumped in a pit someone had dug, glad for a break from the wind while I pulled my heavier gloves out and added some handwarmers to them too. I desceneded further and tried to get my tent up but strong gusts still made their way through. I descended further to the base of the ridge, and finally got my tent up, using snow anchors for the first time as some gusts still made it to the tent.

I made dinner and got into my sleeping bag, full and warm and fell asleep. Around 4am I wokeup, and it was quiet. I finally had an opportunity to take some photos, so I began to experiment with what I liked. This photo is the result.

Tinhat Mountain

This photo has a special meaning for me. 

I was at a memorial on the coast where I had intended to camp that night, but something said during the memorial made me think of high mountain peaks and the stars above, so I ended up making my way up Tinhat mountain after the memorial, going back down after I realized I left my camera in my truck, and hiking back up again, catching a gorgeous coastal sunset. 

I was camping in my tent, while people were sleeping in the hut, and I felt bad rustling around late at night with my camera, so only took a few shots before retiring.

Joffre Lakes, Stars and Aurora

This was an unexpected photo. I had setup my shot from my campsite at upper Joffre lake, and when I checked it I was stunned to see the green glow on the left hand side. I had no idea what it was. I found out later that the Aurora was visible much farther south than usual, and the pristine night sky of the area permitted it to be visible. I couldn't see it with my naked eyes, but the long exposure from the camera was able to capture it. This was taken with my old camera, a Nikon D7100 and Tokina 11-16mm lens. This is also where I understood that I would need new gear to deal with the cold!

The weather was uninspiring and a little rainy, so I went to explore some local waterfalls, and after talking to a local in the park I was visiting, found an interesting vantage to capture this waterfall and capture it's motion with a long exposure.

This is another of my favourite photos. It was such a simple moment, hiking up Cypress mountain after it had rained, with some mist still present, winding through the trees. The leaves were covered in rain drops, worlds unto themselves.

On the way to Tuktoyaktuk, second night stopped at Boya Lake, 70km south of the Yukon BC border. Wokeup to take my dog for a walk, noticed the incredible sunrise, grabbed my camera instead.
